Ingredient Notes

For a deeper sesame flavor, toast the seeds ahead of time in a dry skillet over low heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly. Let cool before using — you'll get much more aroma without adding extra oil.

Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Prep the chicken.

Cut the breasts into small, even strips. Season lightly with salt and pepper, keeping in mind the soy sauce will add plenty of flavor.

  2. 2

    2. Stir-fry the chicken and onion.

Heat the olive oil in a wide skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the onion and stir-fry 2–3 minutes, until it starts to soften. Add the chicken and cook 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked and lightly browned.

  3. 3

    3. Make the sauce.

While the chicken cooks, mix the orange or pineapple juice with the soy sauce and honey. Separately, dissolve the cornstarch in the cold water until smooth, then stir it into the mixture.

  4. 4

    4. Add the sauce.

Once the chicken is cooked, pour the sauce over it and cook 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly and coats the chicken.

  5. 5

    5. Add the sesame.

Remove from heat and sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds on top right before serving. You can save a little to add directly to each plate.
