Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Brown the chicken.

Pat the wings very dry with paper towels and season lightly with pepper. Heat a wide skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Brown the wings 3–4 minutes per side, until nicely golden. Remove and set aside.

  2. 2

    2. Build the base.

In the same skillet, add the onion (cut into strips or small cubes) and cook 3–4 minutes, until soft. Add the garlic and cook about 30 seconds, avoiding burning it.

  3. 3

    3. Add the Coca-Cola and soy sauce.

Pour the Coca-Cola and soy sauce over the onion. Stir to combine and let it boil 3–4 minutes.

  4. 4

    4. Cook the chicken.

Return the wings to the skillet, cover, and cook over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, turning occasionally so they soak up the sauce.

  5. 5

    5. Thicken the sauce.

Dissolve the cornstarch in the 2 tbsp cold water. Uncover and stir the mixture into the skillet. Cook 3–5 more minutes, until the sauce reduces to a glossy, slightly thick glaze coating the wings.

  6. 6

    6. Prep the carrots.

While the chicken cooks, peel the carrots and cut into sticks or rounds. Boil in salted water 8–10 minutes, until tender but still firm. Drain well.

  7. 7

    7. Serve.

Serve the wings hot with the carrots, topped with the Coca-Cola and soy glaze.
